Renowned transgender, Daniel Anthony Nsikan, widely known as Jay Boogie, courageously opened up about the harrowing experiences he endured following complications from a botched surgery.
In an illuminating interview with esteemed media personality Chude Jideonwo, Jay Boogie candidly shared the distressing journey he faced, revealing that he became the target of vile death threats on social media amid grappling with serious health issues.
The tumultuous saga began when individuals Jay considered friends took intrusive photos of him in his hospital bed, falsely asserting an urgent need for public support for a kidney transplant.
Jay Boogie went on to disclose the alarming deterioration of his health to the extent that daily dialysis became a necessity for the elimination of urine from his body.
Expressing his ordeal, Jay Boogie conveyed, “People that I thought were my friends came into the hospital and took pictures of me and sent them to bloggers. The online bullying escalated to the point of receiving death threats. Individuals would enter my DMs, taunting me with comments like, ‘You haven't kicked the bucket yet?’ Faced with such negativity, I decided to take a hiatus from social media.”
Clarifying that he did not willingly publicize his pictures, Jay Boogie emphasized his preference for a discreet life, asserting, “I’m a discreet person. I don’t like flaunting things. I love living a low-key life because nobody cares about you. You should care about yourself.”
Reflecting on the cyberbullying, he expressed dismay at the lack of empathy, stating, “With the dramas going online, people bullied me, questioning my decision, saying, ‘How can a man undergo such a procedure?’ It's disheartening to face such mentality. They fail to see me as a person pursuing my own happiness. If I were their sibling, I believe they wouldn't subject me to the pain I was enduring.”
Recounting the severity of his health struggles, Jay Boogie revealed, “I started going for dialysis every day just so I could pass out urine. My legs were swollen, and my urine levels were alarmingly high. I monitored my water intake rigorously. Before each dialysis session, they would check my weight, and I was consistently over 100 kilograms. The physical and emotional toll reached a breaking point, leading me to contemplate the meaning of it all, questioning, ‘Why did I choose to undergo this procedure?’”
