Recent reports indicate that the police have apprehended Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, the son of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, and his adopted daughter, Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, over an alleged embezzlement of N55 million from Mr. Ibu's donations.
The arrest took place in Ikoyi, Lagos State, as the police suspect Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu of defrauding Mr. Ibu of the substantial amount. The Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in Alagbon announced this development in a communiqué on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
FCID Spokesperson, ASP Mayegun Aminat, stated, "On 6th September, 2023, a petition was received from Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor wherein one Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, Valentine Okafor, both of whom are sons of Mr. John Ikechukwu Okafor (Alias Ibu) and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu were alleged to have conspired to defraud Mr. Ibu while being on sick bed."
Investigations into the case uncovered that Mr. Ibu initiated a public fund-raising campaign to cover his medical bills, seeking donations from fans, entertainment industry figures, and the public. The dedicated account for this purpose was managed initially by Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor, Mr. Ibu's wife, to support the family and cover medical expenses. However, Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu allegedly stole Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor’s phone and gained unauthorized access to Mr. Ibu’s financial details.
