On the one-year anniversary of Mohbad‘s passing, his widow, Wunmi, shared an emotional tribute in memory of the late singer, touching the hearts of fans and loved ones.
Taking to her Instagram page, Wunmi poured out her heart in a deeply emotional note, revealing the extent of her grief and sorrow over the loss of her beloved husband. She expressed how much she has missed the late singer, who passed away tragically, leaving her and their son, Liam, in this cold and unforgiving world.
In the lengthy note, Wunmi reminisced about the life they had planned together, their hopes and dreams, and the unimaginable pain she has endured since his demise. She also took the moment to pray that God forgives his shortcomings, offering heartfelt words in honor of her late husband’s memory.
In the moving tribute, she reflected on the profound impact of Mohbad’s death on her life and that of their young son, Liam. Despite the overwhelming sadness, she expressed her determination to carry on his legacy and raise their son in the way Mohbad would have wanted.
“Ilerioluwa mi, Husband of my youth, my best friend! It’s been a year today—a year since you left me and our Liam in this cold world. It’s been so hard. I miss you so much. Liam misses you too. I wish you were here to see him; you would have been an incredible father. I still don’t know how I’ve survived without you. God, I wish you were here every single day—every millisecond of the day. Your passing brought me unbearable pain, but it has also shaped me. I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning. I’ll never be okay with you not being here; it messes with my head. I keep thinking it’s a nightmare I’ll wake up from, but 366 days have passed, and I haven’t. Oko mi, we had so many plans together, and you had so much more to give to this world. It hurts deeply to know that all our dreams, everything you worked so hard for, are now gone with you.”
Her emotional message continued as she described how Liam is growing, displaying traits of his father, which brings both joy and heartache. She promises to keep Mohbad’s memory alive in every step of their son’s life and prays that he rests peacefully.
“I want you to know that Liam and I are holding on to the strength and love you gave us. Every day, I see pieces of you in him—your kindness, your smile, your spirit. I promise to raise him with the same love and care you would have given him, keeping your memory alive in every step of his life. But today, I choose to celebrate you. Today, I choose to honor your legacy. Today, I choose to give all glory to God for blessing me with you, Ilerioluwa. Today, I choose to be grateful for the gift of Liam—the beauty for our ashes.”
Wunmi concluded her tribute with a poignant prayer, asking God to forgive Mohbad’s sins and grant him eternal peace, while expressing her eternal gratitude for the son they shared together.
