Nollywood actress, Mary Njoku, has weighed in on the recent scandal surrounding the divorce of Moroccan footballer, Achraf Hakimi. In a recent post on her social media page, Njoku expressed her opinion on the situation, stating that it is unlikely for any mother, particularly an African mother, to completely let go of her teenage son, regardless of whether he is married or not.
The actress went on to suggest that many of the contracts signed by Hakimi were likely signed when he was underage, and therefore, putting his assets in his mother's name was not intentional. Rather than attempting to recover her husband's assets, Njoku believes that Hiba Abouk should have focused on making more money for herself.
Furthermore, Njoku expressed the opinion that it is unreasonable to expect a teenager, particularly an African teenager, to be independent of their parents. She emphasized that there is usually a parent, guardian, or someone who believed in them more than they believed in themselves, who put in everything - money, time, prayers, emotional and physiological support, tears, scolding, and made sacrifices just to ensure that their child stood out. She further stated that a teenage boy is his mother's son, while a man is his wife's husband. She suggested that Abouk could have waited a bit for Hakimi to mature or, better still, made her own money.
In summary, Njoku's post suggested that the situation surrounding Hakimi's assets and divorce should be viewed in the context of African cultural and family values, and that Abouk's focus should be on securing her own financial future.
