Popular musician, KCee, has publicly responded to Flavour after being labeled a copycat. The dispute began after KCee released a new song that many fans noted bore a resemblance to Flavour’s popular track, ‘Doings.’
This sparked drama when KCee’s song hit the airwaves, and fans quickly drew comparisons between the two, suggesting that KCee’s latest release mimicked the style and essence of Flavour’s song.
In response, Flavour took to Twitter, throwing subtle shade by commenting on people who "copy too much," which fans interpreted as a dig at KCee.
Flavour tweeted, “Copy copy akaria,” sparking further reactions and speculation among their fanbases.
While Flavour didn’t directly mention KCee by name, KCee quickly replied on his X page with a series of pointed tweets, expressing his frustration and delivering a strong retort.
KCee argued that the music style does not solely belong to Flavour and asserted that no one could “gatekeep” Igbo music or culture.
In a series of tweets, KCee warned Flavour to be cautious, suggesting they are on different levels professionally and personally.
“BRO!!!!!! We are not on the same level.
Pick your battles carefully.
Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a custodian. I’ve been in this game before you. It belongs to all. You don’t own this genre of music. My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize. In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle.”
KCee continued, emphasizing that people recognize and appreciate authenticity. He vowed to keep celebrating Igbo culture without apologies.
“Spend your energy on success, not diminishing mine. I’ve never been the type to go head-to-head, but I’m calling out this nonsense because I won’t be disrespected…”
KCee concluded his series of tweets by declaring his determination and unwillingness to let anyone minimize his hard work and contributions to the industry.
“No way… I’ve come too far for anyone to downplay my sweat and hard work.”
“HELL NO!!!!”
