Award-winning Nigerian superstar, Davido, has opened up on how he was very close to walking away from music before the release of his hit collaboration, “With You,” with fellow Afrobeats star Omah Lay.
The singer made this revelation during a recent interview that surfaced online, where he candidly shared that he had already begun contemplating retirement after over a decade of dominating the African and global music scene.
Davido explained that he never expected “With You” to become the breakout track of his acclaimed 5ive Album, let alone turn into one of the biggest records of his career. According to him, the song completely reignited his passion for music at a time when he felt it was time to step away.
Reflecting on the moment, he said that after 13 to 14 years in the industry, he was already considering bowing out quietly. However, the song’s explosive success reminded him that his journey was far from over and that he still had more to give his fans worldwide.

In his own words, the singer shared: “We thank God. 13 or 14 years after, for me to have this kind of song—it’s rare. Some people get their biggest songs at the beginning of their career, some in the middle. I was even getting ready to bow out, then God blessed me with this record with Omah Lay. He definitely added more life to it.”
