[p]An employer publicly addresses a worker, accusing them of entitlement due to their failure to acknowledge a significant salary increment for several months. The employer explains that during the 2023 fuel subsidy removal by the government, causing a spike in fuel prices from N200/ltr to N700, he doubled the worker's salary without any acknowledgment from the employee.
The employer discloses that after enjoying the increased salary for months, the worker only raised concerns when the salary returned to the original N100,000 rate. In a Facebook post, the employer shares the situation, stating, “I have an employee whose monthly salary was N100,000. When the fuel pump price increased to N630 per liter, I quietly increased all my employee’s salaries and this particular guy’s salary was increased to N200,000.
He received this 200k for months without saying anything. Last month I decided to revert back to his old salary to know what he would do. Today he mustered the courage to send me the message below, feeling entitled to what’s not his own. Now his job hangs in the balance.”
The shared chat reveals the employer questioning the worker about the sudden reduction in salary, implying potential job consequences for the employee.
