A Nigerian woman has sparked intense conversation online after openly declaring her wish to marry from a village that upholds a unique cultural tradition where women are strictly forbidden from cheating on their husbands. According to her, in such communities, if a woman is unfaithful, the tragic consequence is that the husband dies instantly.

The revelation was made in a video shared by @TheBeninBlogger on X (formerly Twitter), where the woman passionately explained her reasons for desiring such a marriage setting. She described the custom as appealing and empowering because, in her view, it would give her leverage over her partner, making him cautious and respectful throughout their union.

She explained further that any husband who chooses to marry her must live carefully and remain faithful, since his very survival would rest in her hands under the rules of such a cultural practice. To her, the tradition serves as a natural check on men, preventing them from “messing up” in marriage.

In her exact words: “Do you know the village I want to marry from? That village that prohibits women from cheating, because if you cheat, your husband will die. You people should link me, hook me up, I want to marry from that village so that my husband’s life is in my hand.”

She added with emphasis: “The moment he messes up, I’ll just use one as an experiment. If you’re coming to me as my husband and you know very well that if I cheat, you will die, respect yourself, because the moment you throw one leg, I’ll throw one, two, three, and the next thing.”

Her statement has since gone viral, generating thousands of reactions across social media platforms. While some users found her remarks hilarious and saw it as nothing more than comic exaggeration, others condemned the notion, describing it as manipulative, dangerous, and reflective of deeper societal issues regarding gender roles in marriage.

Below are some of the reactions from online users:
