A disturbing incident has emerged on social media where a woman reportedly chased her seven-year-old house help out of her home at midnight over a missing N500. The shocking act has since sparked outrage online, highlighting concerns about child welfare and treatment of domestic helpers in Nigeria.
In a viral video circulating on social media platforms, a seven-year-old girl was seen standing on the road with a “Ghana must go” bag containing her clothes and personal belongings. The child was later discovered by a good Samaritan who happened to be passing by at that late hour and was alarmed to see such a young child exposed to the dangers of the night alone on the streets.
The Samaritan approached the child, offered assistance, and took her to her aunty, who had allegedly sent her away from the house. The sight of a small child carrying her belongings at midnight stunned those who witnessed it and sparked immediate concern for her safety.

Confrontation at the House
On reaching the gated compound, the Samaritan knocked on the door, and the gatekeeper allowed them in. Upon entering, the madam of the house was surprised to see the child accompanied by a stranger and asked, “Who are you?” This moment set the stage for a tense confrontation between the woman and her young house help.
According to the madam, she had noticed that the child was outside on the road and brought her back in. She then dragged the child’s bag away and began shouting at her, demanding, “Where is my N500 I asked you to go and buy something for me? Where is my money?” She reportedly slapped the child during the exchange and threatened, “If you don’t provide the N500, I will kill you. I will send you back to your father.”
The good Samaritan tried to intervene and calm the situation, but the video ended before a resolution was reached, leaving viewers shocked at the cruelty directed towards such a young child over a small sum of money.
Social Media Reactions
The video has generated widespread outrage on social media, with users expressing disbelief and anger at the harsh treatment of a seven-year-old child. Many commenters emphasized the inappropriateness and potential criminality of the woman’s actions, highlighting issues of child abuse and neglect.
Fillipo Saga wrote: “How can a 7 years old child be treated this way? Listening to her thugish voice speaks a lot about where she comes from. If her own child steals N500, is this what she will do? This is sad.”
Shegzeblog added: “I would have wanted the government to jail this woman but for the sake of the little baby. Who can suggest another rigorous punishment that she deserves because I’m so sure the husband is not aware of this madness.”
Temitope commented: “This one should be reported to the appropriate authorities. How will you subject a kid to this unnecessary trauma? There are many offenses to charge her with. Using an underage person for the work of a maid which is like slavery. Refusing to provide care and shelter to the underage person in your house, thereby exposing her to armed risk of kidnapping and other dangers. A very wicked person who must face justice.”
Friday noted: “And she’s carrying her own precious baby in her arms and chasing another away because of 500 naira. This woman does not represent a good Igbo woman! She should be ashamed of herself.”
Klintzeal_mix added: “Sometimes I wonder how God takes care of human conscience because honestly, I really can’t comprehend this wickedness. Let’s assume her parents did not offend you, why take it out on a little girl?”
The incident has ignited conversations about child rights, ethical treatment of domestic workers, and the responsibilities of guardians in Nigeria. Advocates emphasize the need for stricter enforcement of laws protecting children and call for immediate action against the woman responsible.
