Afeez Adedigba, an Ibadan taxi driver who recently gained widespread attention after being spotted driving a popular “micra” taxi while wearing his wife’s dress, has shared the reasons behind his unusual choice of clothing.
In a recent interview with media personality Ayo Adams, Afeez explained that his decision was made out of necessity rather than a fashion statement.
According to Afeez, the incident occurred when a heavy rainstorm soaked his clothes, leaving him with no other option but to wear his wife’s gown, which happened to be in his vehicle at the time.
He said, “This is not the only cloth of my wife that I have. There are about two. The first time I wore the dress, it was raining heavily, and all my clothes were drenched. I had no choice but to take hers since I was still interested in working that day.”
Afeez explained that he now keeps his wife’s dress in the car to use during rainy weather and switches back to his own clothes once the rain stops. He noted that this practice has become a practical solution for him while working in the micra taxi business.
The driver, who has been working in the micra taxi sector for several years, shared that he initially turned to driving after struggling to raise funds to start a tire sales business he had learned about in his youth. He expressed gratitude for the job and seeks divine favor in his work.
Addressing public reactions to his clothing choice, Afeez mentioned that passengers’ comments did not bother him. His primary focus remains on earning a living and supporting his family. He also clarified that rumors about a fight causing his clothes to be torn, leading him to wear his wife’s dress, were untrue.
He further shared that he has one wife and four children, who are his motivation for working hard to provide for their needs.
