Kadiri Akeem, a lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has been apprehended by law enforcement officials in Lagos State on allegations of raping a 20-year-old student.
The incident transpired when the victim visited Dr. Babalola's office to address issues regarding her academic results, during which she accused the associate professor of botany of committing the heinous act.
The victim asserted that Babalola, the lecturer, raped her on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, and subsequently reported the incident to the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation.
Following the report to the Gender Unit of the state police command by InclusiveSWEF, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, issued an arrest warrant for Babalola through the state High Court. UNILAG's vice chancellor also became involved in the matter.
The vice chancellor was given a seven-day ultimatum to produce Babalola. The NGO reported that during the VC's interrogation of the accused lecturer, he confessed to the crime. Following this, Babalola was taken into custody after the vice chancellor contacted the police through the school's chief security officer.
Confirming the incident, the command's spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated: "He is scheduled to appear in court in the forthcoming days."
