A young woman, Lynda Kehinde, who recently relocated from the United Kingdom to Lagos, has shared a terrifying experience after her Lekki apartment was completely submerged due to heavy rainfall. The incident left her shaken and highlighted the persistent flooding challenges faced in the area.
Lynda took to TikTok via her handle @lynda_kehinde, sharing a video of the aftermath and detailing how the floodwaters invaded her new home. She described the event as the most stressful day she had experienced since moving to Nigeria, emphasizing the suddenness and severity of the flooding that caught her completely off guard.
In the video, she recounted how the water entered her apartment, starting from the bathroom and quickly spreading to the rest of the house. She explained, “Yesterday, my whole house got flooded because of rain. The entire estate was under water and the water began coming into my house through the shower drain. It literally overflowed, filling the whole bathroom and then spreading to my living room.”
She went on to describe the helplessness she felt as they tried to scoop out the water. “No matter how much water we scooped, ten times more kept pouring in. There was so much water that I started to panic. My living room and everywhere was flooded. There was nothing we could do, I had to wait for the rain to stop and then begin fixing the damages.”
Lynda captioned her TikTok post, “Rainy season in Lekki 0/10 would not recommend,” reflecting her frustration and disappointment with the situation she found herself in just days after moving into her new home.
Social media reactions
The post quickly gained attention on social media, sparking widespread reactions from users who both sympathized with her and highlighted the longstanding drainage and flooding issues in Lekki. Many people shared their own experiences, warnings, and advice for prospective residents in the area.
9364 commented: “Lekki is a fraud. It should be redeveloped as a holiday destination for the dry season only.”[/p>
Anakoka💫 added: “If you choose to stay around Lekki, please avoid renting a ground floor to prevent issues like this. I learned that lesson a long time ago. And if you plan to buy, make sure you carry out proper enquiries about the area—like what it looks like during the rainy season—before making any purchase.”[/p>

George Odili commented: “When you are buying houses in Lekki area, did you ask about the drainage system during the rainy season? In other words, did you plan ahead or just buy house without thinking ahead? Just asking though.”[/p>
The video and the viral reactions serve as a reminder of the persistent flooding problems in Lagos, especially during the rainy season, and how unprepared residents can be when caught off guard by such natural events. Lynda’s experience underscores the importance of proper planning and awareness when relocating, particularly in areas prone to flooding.[/p>
