Fear and panic have gripped Rivers State after a tragic incident where a Rottweiler dog attacked and fatally killed the 4-year-old son of its owner.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred in Igbo-Etche, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. According to a source, the father of the child had released the dogs in the compound to protect his children while he went to work.
The source shared the details, stating, "This happened yesterday in my area. The boy's father was on his way to work when he received a call that one of his dogs had mauled his son to death."
According to the source, all five dogs were well-acquainted with the children, which led the father to release only two dogs to guard the compound while he was away.
Furthermore, it was reported that the children shared a close bond with the dogs, and the deceased child was often responsible for putting the dogs in their cages.
Upon the father's return home, he tragically discovered his son lifeless in a pool of blood. It was revealed that the dog had also injured the boy's sister, but neighbors intervened and killed the aggressive pet in time.
Reports indicate that a veterinary doctor advised the father to sell off the dogs, as some breeds develop mental issues after five years. Remarkably, the dog had been part of the family for seven years.
