The situation with Toyin Abraham has caused some backlash from Twitter users who are criticizing her for supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections.
Adetutu Balogun, a Twitter user, pointed out the discrepancy between Toyin's role as a politician who fought for the freedom of the oppressed in the movie Gangs of Lagos and her support for APC party in real life. Some users came to her defense, stating that it's her job as an actress to read and act out scripts. Others added that the people of Lagos are content with the current state of things, such as illegal taxes via agberos, traffic robbery, and bad roads.
“Nollywood will act but will not learn from it. In Gangs of Lagos, @ToyinAbraham contested as a Gov. She was fighting a family that has held the state hostage for 20yrs. She wanted a change! In real life Toyin supported “Asiwaju baby” who has held Lagos hostage for 20 yrs+!” she wrote.
