The Abia State government, led by Governor Alex Otti, has shown compassion to Ma Chidinma Eluwa, a 106-year-old widow known for selling akara. Despite her challenges, including the loss of family, Ma Chidinma has continued her akara vending business along Owerri road in Umuahia.
Impressed by her resilience, the Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, shared her story with the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable Groups and Poverty Alleviation. After investigating her history, the Special Assistant, Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas, offered Ma Chidinma financial assistance to support her business.
The government initiated a monthly stipend for Ma Chidinma, recognizing her contribution to the local economy. They also plan to enhance her akara business, empowering her further. Additionally, they're preparing to celebrate her upcoming birthday to honor her resilience and community spirit.
