Justice Nicholas Oweibo of a Federal High Court in Lagos granted N20 million bail to the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele[/b], who is facing a two-count charge related to the possession of a single barrel shotgun and 123 rounds of live ammunition without licenses. Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges. The defense counsel presented a bail application, and despite the prosecutor's objections, the court ruled in favor of bail. The court ordered the defendant to provide one surety with a landed property and adjourned the case for trial on November 14. Emefiele is to be remanded in the custody of the correctional service until the bail conditions are met.[/b]
In the charge, the prosecutor stated that Emefiele committed the offence on June 15, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi Lagos, possessing a single barrel shotgun (Jojeff Magnum 8371) without a license. He was also alleged to be in possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition cartridges without a license. These actions contravene the provisions of sections 4 and 8 of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Law of the Federation, 2004.
