According to sources, during the attack on the bus carrying the corps members, five of them managed to escape, but the remaining seven were taken hostage. However, there has been a recent development indicating that the kidnapped corps members were released in the Choba area of Obio/Akpor local government after a ransom was paid.

A witness who claimed to be an in-law of one of the abducted corps members revealed that the released individuals, comprising two girls and five boys, were in a deplorable condition, with their bodies covered in mud, seemingly from being robbed in the bush. The witness also mentioned that they appeared to have suffered insect bites during their time in captivity.

The released corps members promptly reported the incident to the police, providing their statements and seeking assistance in recovering their belongings. The spokesperson of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the news of their release during an interview with Channels TV, assuring that an official statement would be issued by the command on Thursday.
