The proceedings of the presidential election petition tribunal [/b]begin today in Abuja to address petitions against Bola Tinubu‘s victory in the 2023 presidential election. The hearing will involve Atiku Abubakar [/b]and Peter Obi, who represent the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), respectively. They are contesting the declaration of Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll.

Atiku is seeking a fresh election due to alleged irregularities at polling units. He believes that the election was not conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and, therefore, did not reflect the will of the people. On the other hand, Obi claims that Tinubu failed to win the majority of lawful votes and did not receive one-quarter of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Obi also accused Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, of being unqualified to contest the election due to election misconduct. The tribunal will hear evidence from witnesses and examine documents presented by the parties involved. The proceedings are expected to last for several weeks as the tribunal weighs the evidence and makes a final determination on the matter.
