On August 3, 2021, in Epe, Brown Spice's prank was misconstrued by onlookers as an actual robbery, resulting in a mob attacking him and seizing his belongings.

The situation escalated further when the police became involved, leading to his detention for a nearly two-year period.

In his own words:

“It’s a joyful day for me to finally be able to walk around a freeman after spending 707 days in Custodian custody. thanks to my lawyer and everyone that partake in my freedom.

I Was on a one man stunt robbery prank Video for #Dnaijaspirittalenthunt on the 3rd of August 2021 in Epe. While on the scene after the script my content was Misunderstood and I almost got lynched by angry mobs.

They made away with my phones, flash, hard drive and cash some of 200,000 Naira that was suppose to be the price money for characters involved in my script.

After they stripped me off all my belongings, and was almost hacked me to death I was taken to the police station.

Getting to the police station, there was no attempt to recover my stolen items but instead the police commenced their own interrogation, after being beaten up on top of what the mobs did I was requested to pay the sum of 300,000 naira for my bail.

With no means of communication with family and friends. On the 3rd day I was transferred to FSARs in Ikeja where I was tortured into submission and forced to signing the police fabricated statement after being held there for 34 days.

Spent 670 days for trials. God finally vindicated me and now I’m a free man.I can’t get back 707 days I lost in custody and Money spent all through this terrible experience.

But I’m grateful to God for this day. And I’ve not given up to become a celebrated Nigerian.”
