The Ogun State Police Command has taken a suspect named Olumuyiwa into custody in connection with the mysterious disappearance of over 1,300 chickens worth an estimated N8 million from a local farm.

This arrest follows a report filed by the farm's director, identified as Bamgbose, who expressed serious concern about the substantial loss.

As reported in a statement on Sunday by the state's Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the incident came to light during a chicken count conducted by the farm director on August 11, 2023.

The count revealed an astonishing absence of more than 1,300 chickens, collectively valued at N8 million.

"On August 11, 2023, during the chicken count, the director noted that around 1,300 chickens worth N8 million were unaccounted for," stated Odutola.

Reacting promptly to the complaint and in accordance with the directives of the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, the police command initiated an initial investigation into the matter.

This diligent effort led to the identification and subsequent apprehension of the aforementioned suspect, Olumuyiwa.

"Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has been briefed, and he has instructed a more comprehensive investigation. A preliminary inquiry has been launched, the suspect has been arrested, and he is presently in police custody. Soon, the public will be informed about the extent or veracity of the theft, whether the suspect was involved in stealing from the poultry farm for resale or personal consumption," she added.
