The Nigeria Police Service Commission (PSC) has taken a commendable step by promoting Officer Mohammed Aminu, who endured an assault by Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, to the esteemed rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). This well-deserved promotion follows the officer's display of remarkable professionalism and composure, despite the brutal attack he suffered months ago.
The incident, which was captured on video, captured Seun Kuti assaulting Officer Aminu, who admirably kept his cool and restraint throughout the aggression. Following the incident, Seun Kuti was arrested and charged with assault, maintaining his innocence and being granted bail for further legal proceedings.
During its 21st plenary meeting, the PSC officially announced Officer Aminu's promotion, acknowledging his unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of the Nigerian Police Force during the unfortunate encounter. His exemplary conduct and adherence to duty in the face of adversity have earned him this well-earned elevation to the rank of ASP.
The PSC's recognition of Officer Aminu's professionalism was not the only highlight of the plenary meeting. Two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) were appointed, and other diligent officers' achievements were also acknowledged. CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, was promoted to the next rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in appreciation of his outstanding service.
Additionally, the PSC confirmed the appointments of 9,016 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) and authorized the promotion of 14,052 inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed). Notably, Inspector Habila Bulus received a well-deserved promotion to ASP II in recognition of his gallantry and exceptional dedication to his duty.
