A young lady named @OsamudiamenOO shared a harrowing encounter she had with a phone thief in the Iwo Road area of Ibadan. She took to Twitter to narrate the incident, explaining that she was attending a wedding when the thief pickpocketed her phone and attempted to escape.
According to her account, as they were walking from the church to the reception venue on a narrow road, she noticed a strong body odor and turned around to see who it was. The thief motioned for her to go ahead, pretending to be a gentleman. However, when they reached the main road, she realized her phone was missing from her bag. She immediately suspected the person behind her and saw him walking away in the opposite direction of the venue.
Determined to retrieve her stolen phone, she informed her colleagues and started running after the thief without calling out to him, so as not to alert him. When she saw him getting into a cab, she shouted for the cab to stop, attracting the attention of others. She confronted the thief in the cab, demanding her phone back. He claimed it had fallen on the floor and he had picked it up, even having the audacity to ask if it was her phone. The surrounding crowd intervened, dragging the thief out of the cab and giving him a few slaps. Despite her anger, she chose not to participate in the physical altercation and left the scene, walking back to her colleagues. It was then that she realized one of her colleagues had followed her while she was chasing after the thief.
The incident unfolded in a dramatic fashion, with the young lady sprinting in her black jumpsuit, makeup still intact, and screaming for the cab to stop. She believes her bravery was fueled by the thought of her sensitive information stored on the stolen phone. She described it as a race fueled by vengeance, as she had experienced previous incidents of phone theft. The Twitter post also includes a video capturing the moment when the thief was apprehended.
