The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has expressed its appreciation for former Governor Samuel Ortom's voluntary compliance with the invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to answer questions regarding his eight-year tenure in office. Ortom willingly drove to the EFCC's Makurdi office on Tuesday following the agency's invitation. In response to this development, the Benue State PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, commended the former governor for his cooperative attitude during the process.

The statement released by the PDP stated that Ortom's decision to present himself before the commission without any hostility is deserving of praise. It further acknowledged that Ortom's actions reflect his commitment to his promises while in office, as he had previously stated his willingness to give a transparent account of his activities as governor to the Benue electorate. The PDP highlighted that although this is not the first time a former governor has faced the EFCC, Ortom's case stands out due to the absence of animosity and conflict typically associated with such appearances.

The party expressed its satisfaction with Ortom's conduct, asserting that it indicates his lack of any hidden wrongdoing, as it is often said that "only the guilty are afraid." The PDP encouraged other public office holders to follow the example set by Ortom, urging them to carry out their duties within the boundaries of the law, so that they too can be accountable when called upon without fear.

As of the time of this report at 5:15pm, Ortom had not yet departed from the EFCC Makurdi Zonal office.
