The Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, firmly denies the accusations of deposing Ibadan-based barrister Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN) of the chieftaincy title of Jagunmolu of Ede. The monarch asserts that these allegations are fabricated to incite resentment.
In a conversation with our correspondent on Friday night, Oba Lawal clarified that he was unaware that Alliyu had been bestowed with the title by his predecessor. Upon learning about the lawyer's complaint regarding holding the title, the monarch decided to abandon the idea.
As part of the celebrations for Timi's 15th coronation, a statement released by the planning committee announced that Oba Lawal would confer the title of Jagunmolu of Ede upon former Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau.
In response to Dambazau's intended installation, Alliyu issued a statement asserting that he had been installed as the Jagunmolu of Edeland in March 1999 by the immediate past Timi, Oba Tijanni Oyedokun.
