Adams Oshiomhole, the former Governor of Edo State, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu's government as he works to address the country's problems. In a live interview on Channels Television, Oshiomhole emphasized that Tinubu is not a "magician" who can instantly solve all the nation's issues.
Senator Adams OshiomholeAddressing the promises made during the APC's campaign, Oshiomhole clarified that they did not pledge overnight solutions or miracles. He highlighted that there were no specific timeframes provided in their promises for resolving the country's challenges.
"You show me any document that says in 48 hours, this will be done. In 14 days, this should be done. In 21 days, this should be done. I think you are the one who has the illusion that once a promise is made, automatically once you get into office, either spiritually or by miracles, solutions will emerge," he stated.
Additionally, Oshiomhole expressed his disapproval of the N30,000 monthly minimum wage, which he referred to as a "criminal wage." He shared an example of his cleaner earning over N60,000 monthly, illustrating that private-sector employers are often better remunerating than the government.
"What we call minimum wage is a criminal wage. If you exchange N30,000 at N800 or N700 to the dollar, what does that translate to? So, the value of that minimum wage when it was N125 – when it was first introduced under, I think, (Shehu) Shagari’s government – is about two times or three times the value many years later, even in the public service," Oshiomhole explained.
He went on to describe the conscientious decision he made to pay his cleaner a monthly wage of N60,000, considering her circumstances and responsibilities as a mother of four children.
