In light of the recent allegations, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala stated, “It is crucial to ensure that information is accurate and to dispel any false narratives that could harm individuals and communities.” These claims were allegedly made by Simon Ekpa, who claims the title of Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). Ekpa’s assertions have drawn significant attention, particularly given the sensitive political climate surrounding the Biafra movement.

In a recent social media post, it was claimed that both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had consented to provide a substantial loan to the BRGIE. The post indicated that this financial support was intended to facilitate the establishment of a new government following a planned declaration of Biafra on December 2, 2024. Additionally, the post attributed the successful negotiation of this loan to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, suggesting that her influence played a pivotal role in securing the funds.

However, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala quickly debunked the claim through her official account on X (formerly Twitter). In her statement, she urged people to stop misusing her name and denounced the allegations as completely false. Her message read: “I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!”

Meanwhile, in another tweet, Simon Ekpa denied publishing the alleged statement, linking the post to nonentities. According to him: “I never tweeted such; it is even surprising that you can tweet this because your name was mentioned. We have been tweeting about the terrorism against your people, and you never responded nor showed any remorse.”

Ekpa continued, “Here you are, defending what nonentities did with your name, but have been mute about all the killings by the government you served. I congratulate you for always defending yourself and your integrity, even when they are photoshopped. It shows you are really a mother. Thank you for defending yourself, but I never tweeted such a thing; it is false and fake.”
