Following the suspensions of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, Nigerians on social media are calling for the arrest and prosecution of former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami. They allege that Malami engaged in corrupt practices while in power. Additionally, they are demanding the arrest of former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika due to his involvement in the establishment of Nigeria Air, which some lawmakers consider fraudulent. Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Mahmood Yakubu has also been called out for alleged rigging in the 2023 general election that resulted in Tinubu's victory. The suspensions of Emefiele and Bawa were announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on behalf of President Tinubu, with Emefiele's suspension based on ongoing investigations and planned reforms in the financial sector, and Bawa's suspension linked to weighty allegations of abuse of office. Netizens took to Twitter to express their demands, urging Tinubu to arrest Malami or release Bawa. They raised concerns about Malami's close ties to Tinubu, selective prosecutions, wealth accumulation, handling of government debt, and alleged involvement in crude oil theft. Some also emphasized the need to hold other individuals accountable, including Mahmood Yakubu, Hadi Sirika, and others associated with Tinubu. Calls for investigations and accountability extended to the activities of the Federal Ministry of Justice under Malami's leadership.
