The recipient of the winnings, identified as Fuseini, accompanied by his mother adorned in a hijab, joyfully received a dummy cheque representing their substantial winnings on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Despite the emotional celebration, with Fuseini shedding tears of joy, certain Islamic clerics have raised concerns about the morality of the windfall, categorizing it as haram, or forbidden, due to its association with gambling.

The opposition to the winnings stems from the strong stance of staunch Muslims who consider gambling a sinful practice contrary to the principles of Islam.

Under mounting pressure, some of the clerics have invoked Quran 5:90, which expressly condemns intoxicants, games of chance, idolatrous sacrifices, and divining arrows as abominations, deemed the handiwork of Satan. They urge Fuseini to adhere to this scripture and return the money to the betting company.

Additionally, a social media platform known as Iqra Foundation has taken a stance against Fuseini's win, emphasizing the negative impact of such victories on the youth, particularly among Muslims and Zango youth in communities. They question the ethical implications of celebrating a gain rooted in an activity deemed haram.
