This extraordinary wedding ceremony has been an integral part of the town's culture for an astounding 230 years, holding deep-rooted cultural significance.

The ritual serves as a symbolic representation of peace and unity between the Chontal and Huave Indigenous communities residing in southern Mexico.

During the ceremony, the mayor assumes the role of the Chontal king and officially marries the reptile, symbolizing the revered "princess girl" from local folklore.

Amidst the ritual, the mayor, Victor Hugo Sosa, expressed his commitment and affection towards the crocodile, highlighting the paramount importance of love within a marital union. "I accept this responsibility because we love each other. That is what truly matters. A marriage cannot exist without love... I willingly enter into matrimony with the princess girl," stated Mayor Victor Hugo Sosa during the sacred ceremony.

Prior to the wedding, the crocodile is paraded to various households for celebratory dances, donning elaborate attire while its snout remains securely fastened for safety purposes.

The nuptial event takes place at the town hall, where a local fisherman offers prayers for an abundance of fish and prosperity.

In a joyous celebration of cultural fusion, the mayor happily dances with his reptilian bride, spreading happiness and delight among the townspeople.

The culmination of the event occurs when the mayor plants a kiss on the crocodile's snout, symbolizing the conclusion of the unique wedding ceremony.
