A man has recently opened up about his personal experience and the reasons why he decided to stop attending church after feeling let down by the lack of support from the church leadership. The man, who goes by the username @Kingdavidgift_ on social media, shared how he had been a dedicated drummer at his local church for several years, starting his journey as a teenage drummer.
He revealed that despite his long-standing commitment to the church, he sought assistance from the church to help pay for his JAMB form, but the response he received was far from what he expected. As a faithful member and the only drummer at his church, he had hoped that the church would offer him some financial support, especially considering that it was not a small congregation but a zonal headquarters. His disappointment grew when, after weeks of waiting, the church finally provided him with a sum that was insufficient to cover the cost of the form.
Man.He went on to explain that not only did the church fail to provide enough financial support for his JAMB form, but they also did not show concern for his family during difficult times. He recounted how, when his mother fell ill and was in need of help, the church failed to reach out or offer any assistance. He was left feeling abandoned, as not even a single visit or call was made by the church members to check on his mother’s condition.
According to @Kingdavidgift_, these events led him to the decision to stop attending the church altogether. He mentioned that he now connects to worship services from home instead, as he no longer feels the same sense of belonging or support from the church that he had once been a part of.
In his words, he shared a detailed account of his experience: “Asked my pastors to help me with money so I can pick Jamb Form years ago, and they said they will get back to me. The church wasn’t small, it was a zonal headquarter. I was the only drummer, started drumming from the teens department and was drumming for the main church at 16.”
He further explained how, after two years of completing WAEC, he had decided to take the JAMB exam but did not have the money to do so. Despite his dedication to the church, which involved him playing the drums for several years without any payment, and attending every church program, he was given only 1,500 Naira after three Sundays of waiting. The amount was far from enough to cover the cost of the form, and the church’s lack of support left him disillusioned.
He also recounted how, in 2020, some church equipment, including an equalizer and microphones, were stolen, and both he and his friend, the keyboardist, were falsely accused of being involved in the theft. Despite the accusations, his mother advised them not to stop playing for the church. However, things reached a breaking point later that year when his mother fell seriously ill and nearly suffered a stroke. During the time he spent caring for her in the hospital, no one from the church, including the choir members, visited or reached out to offer support, except for his friend, the keyboardist.
Following the crossover service into 2021, @Kingdavidgift_ decided to stop playing the drums for the church and has not returned to play since then. He mentioned that he now prefers to engage in his worship online, from the comfort of his home.
In a final note, he pointed out that after he and his friend, the keyboardist, left the church, the church hired new musicians and began paying them every Sunday, a gesture that was never extended to him during his time of service.
