This story came to light on October 28, when a Nigerian woman took to social media to share the astonishing events that unfolded during her cousin's marriage negotiations. According to her account, her cousin is a Medical Doctor and Surgeon, and he was required to pay N1.5 million as bride price, in addition to N60,000 for the list of marriage items he needed to purchase.

The bride's family defended the high bride price by highlighting their daughter's "graduate" status. This hefty bride price, totaling around N1.5 million, left many social media users in shock.

The social media post read, "Today, my cousin paid 1.5 million as bride price and 60k to collect the list plus the things on the list. The girl’s family said it’s 1.5 million because she’s a 'graduate.' My cousin is a Medical Doctor/Surgeon, but oh well! It doesn't matter to them."

Netizens Reactions...

@ovieDgenius questioned, "In this economy where are you guys seeing 1.5 million?" @mr_efreedom expressed concerns, "Is the girl's father alive? Is the girl's brothers alive? Is the girl alive? And they allowed it? This is not good for the girl long term. He’s going to remind her later that he ‘bought’ her and paid in full."

@_hydrochloric.eth remarked, "She better be ready to have 5 boys in 2 years." @iamvinicius_snr speculated, "I’m sure she's an imo babe, probably from mbaise." @novieverest expressed disapproval, stating, "This is very bad. So that's the value of their daughter?" @riseupnaija shared a different perspective, "Well, your cousin decided to pay. A family friend, a medical doctor, was asked to pay 1 million as dowry for his wife, also a medical doctor, but paid just 50k for dowry. The girl’s family were told that marriage is continuous and for life. The balance will be paid by taking care of your daughter."
