The Cross River State Police Command apprehended a 30-year-old man, Amber Ubung, for allegedly assaulting his 25-year-old lover, Blessing Onawu, with a machete. The incident occurred in Okuni community, Ikom Local Government Area, after Onawu failed to visit Ubung on Valentine’s Day, despite receiving N7,000 from him for her hair.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, disclosed the details, stating that Ubung attacked Onawu with a machete when she didn't fulfill her promise. He inflicted several machete cuts on her body with the intention to kill. The victim's mother also suffered injuries while attempting to intervene.
“A team of policemen were mobilised to the scene, and the suspect was arrested with the machete. The suspect was transferred to SCID for further investigation and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” CP Grimah explained.
The commissioner assured the public of the command's commitment to maintaining peace and order, urging citizens to share information to combat crime. The victim and her mother are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals.
