A Twitter user, @budgetOdogwu, has shared a compelling story about a Nigerian man who decided to end his marriage with his wife because she refused to work after he achieved financial success.
Initially, the man, known as “Egbon,” married his wife while working at First Bank. During this period, the bulk of financial responsibilities fell on his shoulders as his wife pursued nursing education in Port Harcourt.
Tensions arose when Egbon secured a job at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), and the wife chose to quit her job. Despite establishing a business for her in Okporo, financial contributions from her end were lacking, leaving all bills on the man.
As the wife seemed entitled to his money, Egbon noticed the situation and, feeling used as a mere financial ticket, secretly built wealth and properties without her knowledge. In 2018, three months after leaving SPDC, he filed for divorce.
