This is a sad situation for those whose houses were demolished, and it's understandable that emotions were running high.
The government has stated that the buildings lacked necessary approvals and were located in restricted areas around the airport, while some were situated near aviation fuel pipelines, which could potentially result in a disaster. It's important to ensure that buildings are constructed safely and legally, and that people's lives and properties are protected.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, provided several reasons for the demolition while addressing reporters.
Oki stated that the buildings lacked the necessary approvals and were located in restricted areas around the airport, while some were situated near aviation fuel pipelines.
He further added that this situation could result in a potential disaster, such as a fire outbreak from the pipeline, which could lead to the loss of both lives and properties.
The builders were said to have failed to possess the required documents and approvals for constructing in that particular area.
