Commissioner Fayoade explained that, considering the lengthy trek and hot weather, the command provided water and biscuits to prevent protesters from collapsing during the demonstration, aiming to give them strength for a successful protest.

He stated, “I provided water and biscuits because I don’t want anyone to collapse on the way. We have to use water to strengthen everybody. That is the least we could do.”

During the protest, many participants eagerly sought refreshments distributed from patrol vehicles by police personnel.

Fayoade described the protest as peaceful, emphasizing that no arrests were made for any violations. He assured continued police protection during the planned protest on Wednesday.

He affirmed the command's commitment to the security of lives and properties in Lagos State, urging residents to support the police and provide timely information on crimes.

The NLC had scheduled the protest for Tuesday and Wednesday nationwide, addressing concerns about the high cost of living. The organization attributes the prevailing hardships to the increased prices of goods and services following the removal of fuel subsidy and the free fall of the naira.
