A Nigerian lady currently living at the back of her car in the United Kingdom (UK) has shared a heartfelt message directed at Nigerians planning to travel or relocate abroad, especially to the UK, urging them to prepare adequately before making such a move.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the lady is seen inside her car, which is packed to capacity with various bags and essential household items, including foodstuffs. The image of her cramped living space has sparked reactions ranging from sympathy to criticism online.
Speaking candidly in the video, she explained that while there might be free food available in certain circumstances in the UK, there is absolutely no free accommodation for anyone, a reality that many aspiring migrants often overlook. She emphasized the struggles faced by those without proper housing, highlighting her own situation as a living example of this challenge.
She said, “If you are coming to the UK, my brothers and sisters, this is a reminder that there is no free house in the UK. Look now, I’m living in the back of our car, and this is the reality for many people who come here without proper planning.”
The lady further advised those planning to relocate to the UK to ensure they have enough financial resources to either rent an apartment, pay for lodging, or have a secure place to stay upon arrival. She stressed that moving without a solid plan could lead to hardships similar to what she is currently facing.
She concluded the video by appealing to viewers to like, comment, and share her video, hoping that engagement might generate a little income to help her afford proper accommodation. Her story, while leaving many viewers emotional, also prompted discussions about planning, expectations, and survival strategies for migrants in foreign countries.
Social media users reacted differently to her message. While some sympathized with her, others argued that she should be grateful to at least have a car to live in. For example, Truth Be Told commented: “This video’s a mess, TBH. The woman’s situation is heartbreaking, but the way it’s presented feels like a cry for pity rather than a call for action. And that cucumber? Seriously? If you’re gonna highlight homelessness, focus on solutions, not shock value. Truth be told, the UK’s housing crisis is real, but this clip doesn’t do it justice.”
Toylan remarked: “She still get car wey she dey live she dey complain. The fact that you’re explaining why you have the cucumber means it’s for something else.”
Ma_kafuii added: “Who said there’s free house in UK? Is there a free house anywhere? Even in Nigeria is there a free house? Make she go back home na by force to stay in UK🇬🇧?”
Mayor_hobbs also noted: “When you go there with no long-term plans, career, skills, goals, solid backings, this is what happens. Everybody wants to japa.”
The video has reignited discussions about the realities of living abroad and serves as a cautionary tale for those who believe migrating guarantees instant comfort or wealth. It highlights the importance of planning, saving, and understanding the true cost of living in foreign countries before making life-changing decisions.
