Earlier, the Lagos State Police had issued a public notice declaring Benjamin Nnanyereugo as a wanted individual due to suspicions surrounding the tragic demise of his 21-year-old girlfriend. The incident was reported to have occurred on July 13 at his residence in Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos.

Despite extensive efforts to locate and apprehend Nnanyereugo, he had managed to evade capture, leading to his official status as a wanted fugitive. According to Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect, a 26-year-old with a height of approximately 5.9 feet, hailing from Abia, was described as having a dark complexion and fluency in English, Igbo, and Pidgin English. Individuals with information on his whereabouts were urged to contact the nearest police station or call 0803 688 5727, as stated by Hundeyin.

In a surprising turn of events, weeks later, social media reports surfaced, suggesting that the same suspect had been apprehended in Sierra Leone. The posts indicated, “A businessman, Nnanyereugo Best, who was declared wanted by @BenHundeyin for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, a student of Lead City University, has been arrested in Sierra Leone. After the alleged act, he spent over $25,000 to acquire a Sierra Leonean passport.”

Furthermore, it was noted that he had changed his identity to "Kanu Princeton Samuel." His photograph had been circulated on social media by the girl's family, leading to someone in Sierra Leone identifying him. Subsequently, Mr. Femi Falana was contacted, who then informed the Lagos police about the situation, leading to his official declaration as a wanted individual. It was revealed that he was apprehended at a nightclub in Freetown. Clarification was provided that the $25,000 expenditure was not solely for the Sierra Leonean passport but was part of his effort to create a new identity and a fresh start.
