Today, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, a deeply distressing incident unfolded as unknown gunmen abducted four students from Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The victims have been identified as Rahila Hanya (SLT 100 Level), Josephine Gershon (Computer Science 100 Level), Rosemary Samuel (Business Administration 100 Level), and Goodness Samuel (Department of Geography 100 Level).
Confirming the abduction, the spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Rahman Nansel, issued a statement to the press in Lafia. Despite a swift response by law enforcement agencies, including the police and the military, the gunmen managed to escape, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.
“The command is aware of the kidnapping at about 12:55 am, as a distress call was received that a house located at Angwan Kaare, Keffi, was invaded by unidentified armed men,” the statement reads. “The police, in collaboration with the military, responded accordingly and combed the area, but to no avail. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the culprits with a view to rescuing the four victims unhurt,” he added.
This unsettling incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of students in the region, and efforts are underway to locate and rescue the kidnapped students.
