First-time bettor receives multiple debit alerts from Sporty Bet, seeking help

A woman identified as Abisoye Temitope has expressed distress over the occurrence of multiple debits from her bank account to Sporty Bet. She claims to have never engaged in any form of betting before, yet an amount of N50,000 from her bank account was utilized to fund a Sporty Bet account. According to Abisoye, the debited amount was her entire life savings, which were allegedly unlawfully taken from her.

Seeking a resolution to her predicament, the businesswoman took to Twitter, where she tagged Sportybet, her bank (Polaris Bank Ltd), and the Central Bank of Nigeria, appealing for assistance in recovering her funds. She emphasized that the money was intended for her mother's medical expenses. The unauthorized transfers from her bank account to the virtual betting platform occurred in two installments, one amounting to N5,000 and the other to N10,000, which combined to total N50,000. 

In her tweet, Abisoye wrote: "I have never played Sporty Bet in my life, but I received multiple debit alerts just now, amounting to 50,000 naira, all indicating that I funded a @SportyBetNG account. @PolarisBankLtd, that's all the money I have. Please help me. @cenbank Boye, what will my mother eat? How will I buy her drugs? 4K lo ku ninu account."

Numerous social media users responded to her post, offering possible explanations for the incident. One user, Castle tech, suggested that someone may have either hacked her account or used her ATM details to fund their own account. Another user, Ozasiee_, advised Abisoye to report the breach to her bank in writing and submit it to the manager, assuring her that although there might be some delay, she would eventually be refunded. A user named Yehcomber speculated that someone close to Abisoye, who had access to her account details, might be transferring money to Sporty Bet.

The situation has garnered attention on social media, with a screenshot of Abisoye's tweet being shared along with various reactions from users. The woman's plea for assistance highlights the urgency of her financial predicament and the potential impact it could have on her mother's well-being.
