Don Lemon, a well-known news anchor, has taken to his page to announce that he has been sacked by CNN. In his announcement, Lemon revealed that he was informed by his agent that his contract has been terminated.
The reason for Don Lemon's termination was attributed to allegations published by Variety earlier this month, claiming that Lemon mistreated his female colleagues over the course of his career at CNN. In addition, Lemon also faced criticism over comments he made on air that were widely deemed as inappropriate.
Lemon first came under fire in February during a segment on “CNN This Morning” where he made a remark about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, 51, not being in her “prime.” The comment was made while discussing a suggestion by Haley that candidates over the age of 75 should be subjected to mental competency exams. During the segment, Lemon said, “Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry,” Lemon said. “When a woman is considered to be in her prime — in her 20s, 30s, and maybe her 40s.”
In response to his termination, Don Lemon took to Twitter to express his surprise and disappointment. He wrote, “I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
