A recent graduate of Benue State University (BSU), Msuega Terna Jnr, who sparked controversy with a graduation celebration post on social media, has issued a public apology.
The post, originally shared in the Facebook group "TIV SINGLES," garnered attention for its unconventional grammar and wording, leading to a wave of reactions online.
Despite the post being deleted, screenshots circulated widely, prompting varied responses from social media users.
However, in a subsequent Facebook post, Terna clarified that his viral graduation post was not meant to discredit his alma mater or cause harm.
He explained that the use of incorrect grammar was intentional, aimed at drawing attention to himself without intending to offend anyone or tarnish the reputation of any individual, group, community, or institution.
"In the said publication, I deliberately used wrong sentences to create awareness of my signing out from the university, though it was deliberate, but with no intentions of hurting anyone, a group, community, or Institution," Terna stated.
"The publication has generated mixed reactions from users of social media, academics, religious believers, and different groups of people," he added. "It was not intended to drag the reputation of any individual, group, community, or Institution to the mud, neither was the publication to discredit God."
Terna went on to express his regret for any misunderstanding caused and affirmed his ability to express himself fluently and without grammatical errors, being a graduate of one of Nigeria's top universities.
He concluded his apology by emphasizing his belief in the existence of God and his commitment to expressing himself without undermining the quality of education he received.
