Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, expressed her belief that first ladies should be granted certain privileges after their husbands leave office. Speaking at the book launch of Mrs. Vickie Anwuli Irabor, the President of the Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA), in Abuja, Aisha emphasized that outgoing first ladies should receive similar benefits to former presidents. These privileges include the provision of vehicles, sponsored medical treatments, and stipends, among other entitlements. Aisha highlighted the importance of recognizing the role of first ladies and treating them as former first ladies after their husbands' tenure ends. She drew attention to her own experiences, having served as a former first lady once before and soon to be again, emphasizing the need for these privileges to be extended to all first ladies.
