In an interview with the reputable Kenyan platform TUKO.co.ke, Geof Walker shares that he initially arrived in Uganda as a carefree single man. Miriam, a single mother of two, played a crucial role in transforming his life. Before relocating to Uganda from Wairarapa in New Zealand, Geof was a well-known photographer, a profession he continues to pursue.

“From arriving in Uganda in December 2016, single, no kids, to arriving back in Aotearoa, New Zealand on December 2023 with a partner and four beautiful children to start a new adventure in a new country, in a new year,” said Walker.

While the family has returned to New Zealand, their journey faced challenges, especially when planning to travel in 2020. Walker expressed gratitude on Twitter for the support received, mentioning the difficulties caused by pandemic-related delays.

Upon learning about the family's financial situation, Hellen Clark initiated a fundraising page to support them, aiming to raise KSh 5 million (N30 million). The funds are intended to help the family start their lives anew in New Zealand, covering repatriation costs incurred during their return from northern Uganda to Wairarapa. Geof Walker, known for his photography in Wairarapa, arrived with minimal possessions and no assets, making any support crucial for their resettlement.
