A pastor affiliated with a Pentecostal church in Anambra State, Pastor Prosper Obum Igboke, tragically took his own life in Nnewi after facing rejection when proposing marriage to his lover.
Eyewitnesses recounted the heart-wrenching incident, stating that Pastor Igboke jumped from a two-storey building after the woman he had supported through university declined his marriage proposal.
According to a close relative of the deceased who spoke anonymously to the press, the man was 30 years old at the time of his death. His girlfriend, who he had been planning to marry, turned down his proposal despite his assistance in putting her through university. The relative expressed disbelief that a pastor of his age would resort to such an act.
The tradition of the Leru autonomous community of Umunneochi LGA in Abia State, where Pastor Igboke hailed from, dictates that someone who commits sacrilege would be buried in a forest. Accordingly, he was laid to rest in a bush.
In a separate incident, a woman came forward with allegations against Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, a popular pastor from OPM church. She claimed to be his baby mama and shared her story in a viral video. The woman accused the pastor of having relationships with her and other women under his care, leading to her pregnancy. She shared her account with human rights activist Dr. Daniel Ochu.
