A Calabar-based mechanic, James Emina, who was spotted with a little baby at his workshop, has seen Nigerians rally behind him, donating over N285k after a photo of him caring for his child went viral.
According to James Emina, his wife abandoned them citing mental health challenges, leaving him to single-handedly care for their infant daughter, Blessing.
A customer at his workshop recently snapped a photo of Emina cradling Blessing while attending to his duties, which subsequently went viral on social media.
Touched by the scene, Nigerians began donating funds to support Emina and his daughter. As of now, donations have exceeded N285,000
Cornelius Ella, head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Cross River State (UNICROS), has been facilitating the donations.
Cornelius personally delivered an envelope containing N60,000 in contributions from anonymous donors, including N10,000 and N50,000 from two separate individuals.
“I visited baby Blessing and her Dad in their residence some minutes ago to deliver an envelope containing what was recently paid to them through me. The envelope contained N10,000 received from someone who prefers to remain anonymous and N50,000 from another person who equally prefers to remain anonymous.”
“Similarly, I visited them two days ago to deliver the sum of N225,000. This arose from N120,000 received from Anwulika Udanoh Bobbitt, N50,000 received from Ezinwa Nlewedim, N10,000 received from Uzzystouch, N40,000 received from someone who prefers to remain anonymous and N5,000 (five thousand naira) received from someone who also prefers to remain anonymous,” Cornelius said.
