A Nigerian lady’s first attempt at preparing ogbono soup has captured the attention of many on social media after she shared her disappointing experience online.
The lady, @badgirlalla on X (formerly Twitter), posted a photo of her unappetizing dish, which drew a flurry of reactions from netizens who offered helpful corrections and advice.
In her post, the young lady detailed her missteps in cooking the traditional Nigerian soup.
She explained that while she added red oil to the pot, she forgot to mix the ogbono (wild mango seeds) with water before incorporating it into the oil. Instead of achieving the expected thickened soup, her attempt resulted in a black, unpalatable mixture.
Describing her experience, she wrote:
“Made ogbono for the first time. The thing was, I applied the red oil, kinda bleached it then forgot to add the ogbono inside little water. I just poured the dry ogbono inside the oil, stirring it, before I knew, everything was black and my ogbono did not draw. A whole 1 cup of ogbono wasted.”
