An 84-year-old man identified as Gabriel Ahuwa has been apprehended by the Edo State [/b]Police Command for reportedly using a machete to fatally attack his 75-year-old wife. The motive behind the gruesome act was allegedly his wife's refusal to engage in sexual activity with him.
The elderly man, Ahuwa, was among 198 suspects displayed during a press briefing on August 16, 2023, by the Command's spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor. The suspects were paraded for various crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, murder, and cultism, among others.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect had ongoing conflicts with his wife over her refusal to engage in sexual relations with him. The PPRO noted that the suspect displayed no remorse and believed that his violent act was the appropriate solution to his perceived problem.
Speaking to reporters, Gabriel Ahuwa alleged that his wife had been rejecting his advances for an extended period and had been involved with other men. He expressed frustration over his wife's behavior, claiming that she either cited illness or ulcers whenever he asked for intimacy. Despite reporting the issue to both his family and her family, he asserted that she continued her alleged extramarital affairs, which he had heard were with pastors and other men.
He further revealed, "Each time I demanded for sex, either she would tell me she was sick, or she had an ulcer yet I was hearing rumors that she was sleeping with other men and I don’t have money to carry prostitutes."
Gabriel Ahuwa recounted that he resorted to violence out of anger due to her perceived disobedience. He claimed that his children had cut off communication and financial support in response to his complaints, alleging that his late wife had poisoned their minds against him.
"So on Saturday last week in the afternoon in the house, I pick up a cutlass and macheted her all over her body. I did it in anger because she is not obeying me, and I want people to know of it," he admitted.
Contrary to his claim, one of his sons denied allegations of neglecting their father, asserting that they had sent him money just five days prior.
