Gunmen have abducted at least 29 villagers from Yewuti village in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The victims include men, women, and children and were kidnapped in the middle of Tuesday night. Yewuti village is the hometown of the immediate past vice chairman of Kwali Area Council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti. According to Daily Trust, the gunmen raided eight houses and abducted the residents, including Idris Mohammed, Abdullahi Zubairu, Sani S. Magani, Peter Modu, Ibrahim Mamman, Yellow Abdulrasheed, Musa Suleiman, Simbiya Ishaku, Sumaiya Ibrahim, Muktari Yunusa, Mohammed Yeluwa, Rahmat Shagari, and others. Two housewives, Mrs. Zainab Umar and Mrs. Aisha Zubairu, managed to escape from their abductors while being led into the bush.
The immediate past vice chairman of the council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, confirmed the incident and stated that his younger brother Idris, two of his elder brothers’ wives, and a child were among the victims. The kidnappers have not yet made any demands, and the whereabouts of the victims are currently unknown. The police have launched a search and rescue operation to free the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
