An 18-year-old boy named Michael Segun has been arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a security guard with planks and bottles. The incident occurred on June 1, 2023, at Larryem Hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos. Segun, who is an unemployed teenager from the Captain area, is facing charges of conspiracy and assault.

The court session took place on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, before Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, where Police Prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem presented the case against the defendant.

According to Akeem's allegations, Segun, along with his friends, brutally assaulted Mr. Shettima Ibrahim, a security guard at the hotel, following Ibrahim's reprimand for smoking Indian hemp on the hotel premises. The complainant was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. The charges pressed against Segun are in violation of Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

In response to the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted Segun bail in the amount of N100,000, requiring two sureties to provide a similar sum. The case has been adjourned until August 2, 2023, for mention, as the legal proceedings continue.
