Wayne Rooney has been dismissed from his role as the manager of Birmingham City, as the club revealed after a disappointing 15-match tenure. Rooney assumed the managerial position in October, but the team's performance under his leadership has been far from satisfactory, managing only two victories out of the 15 games played during his tenure.
This string of poor results has caused Birmingham to slide to the 20th position in the Championship, leaving them with just a six-point buffer above the relegation zone.
In an official statement, Garry Cook, Birmingham’s CEO, acknowledged that Rooney's appointment "did not go as planned," prompting the decision to part ways with the former Manchester United striker.
Rooney expressed his gratitude for the opportunity but highlighted that the team's performance during his tenure fell short of his expectations. He also hinted at the necessity for more time to implement the changes he believed were crucial for the team’s success.
With Professional Development Coach Steve Spooner taking over on an interim basis, the club is now actively seeking a new manager. Rooney's departure comes as a surprise, considering he was initially granted a three-year deal upon his appointment, with the club’s co-owner and chairman expressing confidence in his capability to guide Birmingham to victories.
